Cult or Religion
by Richard C B inwhat is a cult and what is a religion?
its open to debate.
who has the authority to say for certain what is a cult and what is a religion?

I personally try not to use the word cult anymore. If you use that word with a JW, they will run the 100 yard dash in 9 seconds flat. And that includes grandmothers. I have found that if I use the term "High Control Groups." they will at least listen to what I have to say.

Wishfully thinking here... I do believe what you say, but I wish there was a way to show JWs the evidence that this is what goes on
Even if there was evidence, the members would just say, "OH MY" and life would continue like nothing happen. Like the old song use to say, "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize"I'm actually am getting very pessimistic about waking them up.

J.A., you've left in exciting times.
Tell me about it, it’s been one freaking ride. The good thing though is that all the changes have made my decision a lot, lot easier. I have never doubted leaving because of all the crazy things they started doing right as soon as I left. They have actually help me leave the WT without any reservations.
Expect AWAKE to go away or go 100% digital, maybe WATCHTOWER too. Conventions will be smaller and crammed into Assembly Halls way more than before. Expect Friday sessions to end (if they haven't already).
I agree with your thoughts.
Maybe they will start charging $3 to park a car at Assembly Halls
They are already doing that where I live except it’s $7 per car. They did have some kind of fight because first they picked up the money at the Kingdom hall then when the friends went to the assembly, no one was asking for the parking tickets. So what happen to all the money they picked up at the Khall??????

How did you justify that to yourself? I think that would have woke me up right away.
It was for Jehovah!!!!!

Ever wondered where the "cost" of an assembly comes fromI haven't read the post, but when I was an elder, I was in charge of accounting at the assemblies. Right before the elder's meeting after the assembly, I would get together with the assembly overseer and the CO and we always had more than enough money. But we would manipulate the wording to make it seem we were short. One time we had over $30,000 and the assembly overseer said; "if we tell the friends we've gotten this much, they will stop contributing" So we picked a number a few hundred dollars below actually costs and say those famous words; "Friends, we know you will do the right thing"

We will eventually see TV commercials and potentially full blown hollywood style movies, like "Fireproof" or "Heaven is for real"You know I thought about that, maybe even have some famous JW as a spokesperson Like Coco Rocha.

I definitely see them suggesting a per publisher rate that the congregations should donate to WT each month similar to what they do for assemblies.I'm not familiar with that, but if the rate is $10 per publisher, they really can't enforce it can they? This is actually news to me.
Heck, I didn't know that either.StarTrekAngel
the automatic recurrent doanation on jw-org already exists.steve2
I have a hunch - and nothing to base it on - that the annual worldwide report on JWs, currently published in the JW Yearbook, will be changed in some way - or stopped altogether within the next 5 to 8 years
I can see that happening. -

What are we going to see in the next two years?
They are lousy at investing in the stock market, so I say they are going to get in the housing real-estate market.
They have to come up with new ways of making money.

Regarding changes and my poor mother!
by username inwell i just got off the phone with mother (thankfully she has no part in the shunning policy) and she thinks the changes are "marverless" this i would imagine is the general consensus of most hardcore rank and file!
she is even investing in a roku device so she can watch more indoctrination programming.
to be honest i wouldn't even try make her think, because she has far to much invested in the cult.

I finally figured that out. In the past year I've have 8 jw friends die and they died happy and peaceful believing they would wake up soon.
The family is also very happy they are going to see them soon in the paradise. They never had any conflicts in the organization.
That's just the way it's going to be. Most jws are very happy in the organization and will stay there till they die. No child abuse, no new light, no blood policy or shunning will cause them to leave. And they will put up with all the meetings and field service and conventions.
There's really very little we can do to help them get out of the cult.
